Situated 25 miles east of Tampa, Plant City is the second largest municipality in Hillsborough County, with a distinct community well positioned for growth.
Plant City’s population is young, talented, and taking advantage of the amenities of the historic, rural community. Locals enjoy farmers’ markets, historic places, and beautiful parks such as Edward Medard Park and Preserve.
The small town atmosphere features an agricultural and industrial culture distinctive from the more urbanized areas of Hillsborough County, making it a great place for businesses in manufacturing, food processing, distribution and logistics, and agribusiness. Key businesses in the Plant City limits include James Hardie, Dart Container, Toufayan Bakeries, Star Distribution, Plastipak Holdings, Gordon Food Services (GFS), Santa Sweets, and Highland Packaging Solutions.
Since October 2013, nine companies have chosen to expand operations in Plant City, creating 818 new jobs and $154 million in capital investment. Collectively, James Hardie, Florida Silica Sands, C&S Wholesale Grocers, Toufayan Bakery, Palm Harbor Homes, Dart Container, Fitlife Foods, and Cody Talbert Distribution will occupy 1,504,000 square feet.
While available land and its strategic location have greatly influenced these companies, as well as many others, to call Plant City home, the City’s business-oriented focus helps the small town shine. The local government is pro-business and focused on making the best decisions for the community. The government has the ability to fast track all rezoning in the I-4 Overlay District, as well as to expedite permitting. There are no Transportation Mobility Fees, and Plant City charges the lowest millage rate in all of Hillsborough County.
