One of the biggest struggles employers face once their staff is in place is making sure they stay up to date with vital industry-specific skills and current trends. This task often finds itself at the bottom of to-do lists, as projects and day-to-day tasks simply outrank additional professional development.
Tampa and Hillsborough County have many resources in place to help companies and their employees stay skilled and fresh in their industry, thanks to community partners like CareerSource Florida and CareerSource Tampa Bay (CSTB).
A source of assistance for both jobseekers and employers, CSTB is a driving force in delivering workforce solutions that support economic development locally. Through CSTB, employers are able to target the best candidates for available positions. For individuals who are already with the company, CSTB offers employers further professional development programs.
For previously existing employees, a variety of programs are in place to help companies keep their competitive edge. Employed Worker Training (EWT) helps local employers increase the skill set of their workforce, as well as productivity and morale levels. The Incumbent Worker Training (IWT) grant is designed to upgrade skills for current, full-time employees.
In order to help companies hire the best talent out there, CSTB offers a variety of screening and recruitment services such as posting jobs to Employ Florida, screening potential applicants to ensure candidates are qualified, and recruiting candidates through job fairs, social media, and on-site events.
CSTB recognizes the importance of training employees from their moment of hire, offering On-the-Job Training (OJT) for qualified new employees. OJT helps to offset costs employers endure while new employees are training.
