WFLA-TV/News Channel 8 is Tampa Bay’s #1 source for news, weather, sports and entertainment. Anchored by Tampa Bay’s most trusted journalists, News Channel 8 is On Your Side providing viewers with important coverage of news, late breaking events and politics. News Channel 8 aggressively seeks answers and demands accountability, and investigates to expose problems and achieve results.

 

WFLA-TV first went on the air February 14, 1955, with a live broadcast of the Gasparilla Parade of Pirates. Fifty year later, they are still broadcasting this Tampa Bay tradition and have been an NBC affiliate since the day they signed on the air. With the recent acquisition of WTTA-TV/Great 38, these two stations entertain, enlighten and inform viewers throughout the Tampa Bay area.

 

News Channel 8 and Great 38 provide local businesses, ad agencies and brands a one-stop shop to effectively and efficiently reach their target audiences across all screens.

Andy Alford, Tampa General Manager

Andy Alford is President and General Manager of WFLA-TV and WTTA-TV, Tampa’s NBC and MyNet affiliates. He has additional responsibilities with Media General including oversight of 2 stations in Albany, NY.

 

Before moving to Tampa, Alford served as Vice President and General Manager of WTEN-TV, an ABC affiliate, in Albany, NY and operated WXXA-TV, a Fox affiliate, under a shared services and joint sales agreement with Shield Media. Prior to Albany, he spent a total of seven years at WGCL-TV in Atlanta, most recently as Vice President and General Manager. He has also served in broadcast management roles in the Orlando, FL, Syracuse, NY and Rochester, NY markets.

 

Alford grew up in Rochester, NY and began his television career in sales at WHEC. He has been involved in a number of industry and community organizations, including the Heart Walk Cabinet for The American Heart Association Tampa Bay, Board of Directors of Make-A-Wish, Georgia Association of Broadcasters, The Southeast Chapter of National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement for Northeastern New York.

 

He has been married to his wife Nancy for over 30 years and has a son and daughter; Max and Katy.
