Financial and Professional Services is big business in Tampa Bay. Nearly one in four business and information services firms in Florida call Tampa Bay home, including some of the top names in banking, finance, and insurance.

And it makes sense why we’re a common location for this industry.

We earned the #3 spot for Most Cost-Friendly Business Locations Among Large U.S. Cities, outranking popular cities such as Dallas, Boston, and New York.

We also have a labor force of nearly 1.5 million that is young, talented, and educated.

On top of that, our government leaders work hard to make Hillsborough County a business-friendly community.

Due to these assets, Hillsborough County and the cities of Tampa, Plant City, and Temple Terrace have a 40-year track record of offering a competitive alternative to the nation’s traditional financial centers in the northeast.

Today, we are a proven leader and strategic center of growth for the financial and shared service operations of prominent institutions around the globe. Companies like Chase, Citi, Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), PwC, Ernst & Young, Morgan Stanley, Humana, MetLife, and State Farm validate our region’s reputation as “Wall Street of the South.”

Find out why USAA chose Tampa and Hillsborough County as home for two USAA campuses and what the community means to employees.

Ten percent of the nation’s Fortune 50 and nine percent of the Fortune 100 companies’ shared services operations are located here. As the fastest growing industry segment in the Tampa metro area, professional and business services have year-over-year employment gains of 7 percent and a total workforce of more than 248,000.

Tampa’s young and diverse workforce delivers the skills you need today and a strong existing industry cluster makes it easy to recruit top talent. Filling a robust talent pipeline to support future needs, Tampa has two AACSB-accredited business schools, a distinction held by less than 10 percent of business schools worldwide.

The University of South Florida Muma College of Business boasts one of the nation’s best accounting schools, a top-ranked entrepreneurship center, a nationally-ranked MBA program, and a world-class research faculty. More than 2,200 students are enrolled in the Sykes College of Business at the University of Tampa, recognized by The Princeton Review as one of the top 300 business schools in the world for nine consecutive years. University of Tampa’s Sykes College of Business has also been ranked the 7th best for value for price, beating out University of Notre Dame, Harvard University, and Duke University. Additionally, Hillsborough County Public Schools and Hillsborough Community College provide a variety of training programs for area employers, developing customized curriculum to meet specific business needs.

Not only do business and financial services firms choose Tampa for relocation or expansion, they have confirmed these decisions with further expansion and growth in the area. DTCC originally selected Tampa as the site of a redundant operations with 300 jobs, but now, the site stands as a fully-integrated business operations unit with 530 employees and plans to add an additional 255. USAA’s southeast home office location announced expansion plans with 1,400 jobs and the largest build-to-suit office project in Hillsborough County since 2001. Tampa-based HealthPlan Services picked the area for further expansion, planning to add to its existing 650 local employees with an additional 1,000 new jobs by 2018. These ongoing expansions cement Tampa and Hillsborough County’s role as one of the nation’s leading financial services and professional services centers.

With business-friendly government and community support, low cost of living, and enviable quality of life, choosing Tampa and Hillsborough County just adds up.

Bottom line – Tampa and Hillsborough County are good for business.
