Florida earns Silver Shovel Award for attracting high-value projects

July 19, 2019

Each year, Area Development magazine recognizes states for their achievements in attracting high-value investment projects that will create a significant number of new jobs in their communities.

Florida earned a Silver Shovel Award this year, many thanks to projects closed in Hillsborough County. Impressively, these projects span across industries, including IT, professional and financial services, manufacturing and aerospace. Area Development called out Webstaurant that announced more than 300 new jobs, Baker McKenzie with another 300 jobs, Steelco Florida with nearly 200 jobs, and CAE USA with 100 new jobs.

Florida, Illinois and New York all received Silver Shovels among the states with populations of 12+ million, narrowly missing out on the Gold Shovel, which went to Texas.
