You recently joined the EDC as an Investor; what are you most looking forward to about your involvement with the EDC?
I am eager to unite Tampa Bay business leaders behind the EDC’s pro-business initiatives. I’m especially interested in the implementation of the proposed Gold Standard Bus Rapid Transit project that would run a critical 41-mile route through Pasco, Hillsborough and Pinellas counties along the I-275 corridor.
As a business leader in Tampa, what aspects of our community make Tampa an attractive location for businesses?
The Tampa region has more commercial companies than many other areas of the state. This provides us with many opportunities to bank the best companies in Florida, which we’ve been able to do consistently.
As imagined, Tampa International Airport’s expansion, Port of Tampa’s land repurposing and development, and our major highway expansions have been instrumental in the areas growth.
We’re seeing areas of growth in real estate investment, distribution and warehousing, and business services. There is moderate growth across the board, but the business services sector is leading the way in growth percentages and direction in this market, particularly in the areas of technology and bio sciences. Those are heating up the most.
It’s a fun time to live, work, play and serve within the Tampa Bay community.
How does PNC Bank attract and retain top talent?
Maintaining a stellar reputation in the industry is essential and we’re fortunate to be a highly regarded financial institution. Local professionals know we’re a great company to work for that encourages our employees to maintain work/life balance, so it’s an easy sell.
In a growth company like PNC, it is critically important to keep talented people and that you provide a career path for them, which may include moving them to different lines of business: from Retail to Wealth, Retail to Commercial & Institutional Banking, C&I Banking to Business Banking, etc.
How does a financial institution like PNC Bank impact the Tampa market?
We recognize that success isn’t about whether we sold another deposit product or booked another loan so much as it is about whether we helped the people and institutions we serve to achieve their financial goals.
For more than 160 years, PNC Bank has been committed to providing our clients with great service and powerful financial expertise to help them meet their financial goals.
Through executive leadership, strategic investments and employee volunteerism, PNC is helping to build strong communities in Hillsborough County and create financial opportunities for individuals, families and businesses throughout the Tampa Bay area.
Our financial support and banking advice to our Tampa clients and community partners are strategic investments in Florida. We’re committed to helping build a solid foundation for the future of our local economy. And we’re here to stay.
