Latest economic indicators signal strong ending to 2017

The Tampa metro area’s economy has been strong all year, and the latest economic indicators suggest that our momentum isn’t abating. The unemployment rate in September 2017 for our local labor force of 1.5 million was 3.3 percent, 1.4 percent less than the same time last year.

Individual employment sectors are seeing major growth in comparison to September 2016 as well. Professional and Business Services added 12,900 over the one-year period, an increase of 5.6 percent. Finance and Insurance added 2,300; and the Education and Health Services sector added another 3,000 local jobs.

Overall, employment figures are on the rise. The total number of jobs added from September 2016 to September 2017 jumped 36,900, a gain of nearly 3 percent for the Tampa MSA.
