Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation Announces Name Change

October 10, 2019

Tampa and Hillsborough County’s lead designated economic development agency will become the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council on Oct. 29

The Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation (EDC) today announced that it is changing its name to the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council. The organization will begin using the new name and unveil its new logo at its Annual Meeting in Tampa on October 29 at the Straz Center.

“Our board firmly believed that the time was right to adopt a new name and a new brand,” said Craig J. Richard, CEcD, FM, President and CEO of the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation. “We are celebrating our 10th anniversary as an organization, and this rebranding – along with our new strategic action plan – will position us for greater success in our second decade.”

The Tampa Bay Economic Development Council will continue to serve Tampa and Hillsborough County exclusively, while continuing to partner with its regional allies in global trade and other initiatives.

The new name received unanimous approval from the EDC’s Executive Committee in June and was shared and discussed with the full board at its strategic planning retreat in August. The new logo, created by EDC Investor Trickey Jennus, was also approved.

Why was the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council chosen as the new name?

“The use of ‘Tampa Hillsborough’ has caused some confusion among our national and global prospects,” said Marie Chinnici-Everitt, FY2020 Chair of the EDC and Managing Director and Chief Marketing Officer of DTCC. “Adopting ‘Tampa Bay’ aligns us with the family of brands that are marketing Hillsborough County – and Tampa – domestically and internationally, including Visit Tampa Bay, Film Tampa Bay, and the Tampa Bay Sports Commission. This consistency strengthens our tourism, economic development and sports event marketing campaigns and helps all of us be more effective.”

The Tampa Hillsborough EDC has played a key role in the transformation of Tampa and Hillsborough County’s economy over the past ten years. The organization and its partners in the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County and the State of Florida have helped more than 250 companies relocate to or expand in Hillsborough County, creating more than 32,000 new jobs and generating $2.5 billion in capital investment in the local community.
