When it comes to health care costs, the Tampa Bay area offers some of the most affordable care in the southeast and in comparison to similar markets across the U.S. According to the latest cost of living data, local health care costs are less than Atlanta, Austin, Raleigh, Dallas and Denver, and are lower than the national average.

BayCare

The leading not-for-profit health care system in Tampa Bay with 15 hospitals, BayCare has $4.4 billion in operating revenue and hundreds of convenient locations. It has an annual training and education budget of around $55 million, and in 2019 is one of the largest employers in the bay area with over 29,000 team members.  BayCare ranked in the top 20 percent of large health systems nationwide by IBM Watson Health in 2019.

Tampa General Hospital

The first hospital in Florida to offer monoclonal antibody treatments to Covid-19 patients and chosen to be one of five hospitals to participate in the state’s pilot program for the distribution of the coronavirus vaccine. TGH is the #1 hospital in Tampa Bay and one of America’s best hospitals in five specialties. The second-ranked hospital in the state according to U.S. News and World Report, Tampa General Hospital is one of the most comprehensive facilities in Florida, serving as the area’s only Level I trauma center and one of just four burn centers in the state. Tampa General also stands as one of the leading organ transplant centers in the country and is just one of three outpatient pediatric dialysis units in Florida.

USF Health

USF Health is integrating research, education and health care to transform our quality of life. USF Health is the partnership of the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, the College of Nursing, the College of Public Health, the College of Pharmacy, the School of Biomedical Sciences and the School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences; and the Doctors of USF Health. With the announcement of its 2019 move to a new state-of-the-art facility in downtown Tampa, USF has become the most selective medical school in Florida, with applications rising 40 percent and the MCAT scores for the past four entering classes among the top 10 percent of all U.S. medical schools. The Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (CAMLS), also located downtown, is one of the world’s largest facilities dedicated exclusively to providing simulation experiences and training to health care professionals.

Moffitt Cancer Center

While specialty doctors aren’t always at the top of mind, we like knowing that some of the best specialists in the country are in our backyard. Not only is it the top cancer hospital in Florida, but Moffitt Cancer Center is one of 30 leading cancer centers in the U.S. participating in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Moffitt ranked #11 on U.S. News & World Report as “American’s Best Hospitals” for cancer in 2020, making it the best cancer hospital in Florida.

Tampa Bay is also home to USF Health Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute, Florida Hospital Pepin Heart Institute, and Lion’s Eye Institute for Transplant Research, to name a few.
